Description ☀️ Light Full Sun. This plant is a sun-worshiper. It needs at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight to bloom profusely. If kept in the shade, it will become “leggy” and won’t produce its signature golden carpet of flowers. �� Watering Low to Moderate. Once established in the ground, it is quite drought-tolerant. In Pots: Water when the top half of the soil is dry. The Malta Tip: It hates “wet feet.” In winter, be very careful not to overwater, as the roots can rot quickly in cold, soggy soil. �� Foliage / Growth It has tiny, trifoliate (three-part) silvery-green leaves. It grows as an upright, bushy shrub that can reach 1–1.5 meters in height. Because it is a member of the legume family, it actually helps fix nitrogen in the soil! �� Potting Mix Gritty and well-draining. It loves the alkaline, limestone-rich soil of Malta. If planting in a pot, use a mix of standard potting soil and plenty of grit or coarse sand. It prefers “lean” soil over rich, heavy compost. �� Fertilizer Minimal. It doesn’t need much feeding. A light sprinkle of balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring is enough. Too much nitrogen will give you lots of green leaves but very few yellow flowers. ���� Pet Safety Toxic. Like many members of the broom family, it contains alkaloids (such as cytisine) that are harmful to cats, dogs, and horses if eaten.
